About Me : Social Networks I Belong To

Just like everyone else in the 21st century I belong to several “Web 2.0” social networks across the web. If you know me, or are interested in following my content or photo postings, feel free to add me as a contact/friend/buddy, etc.. I'll check out your profile too, and if it's interesting stuff I'll also add you back.

I also follow quite a few blog feeds using Google Reader and share the posts that interest or amuse me, click here to check them out.
Live Journal
In early September of 2000 I signed up for a Live Journal account so I could leave comments on some other blogs. I didn't do much else with it for a while, but later started posting various rants and funny/interesting stuff I find and continue to do that to this day. I don't really use this site to post anything of a personal nature.

MySpace Cesspool
Everyone online and offline was talking about MySpace, so I broke down in 2005 and signed up an account. I ended up deleting it after a few months, but then I got sucked back in mid-2006 and signed up another account (with the same username). I've connected with some old buddies, and new work buddies, on the site so far. I still don't understand the hype, but it's not totally worthless.

Flickr Photos
I had been keeping my photos in iPhoto on my PowerBook, until the hard drive died. So in November of 2006 I decided to sign up for a Flickr account and transfered some of them over to share with the world. I've since tried to post more, and mean to post quite a few more photos of Austin and the local sights too. I love this town and the rest of the world should see more of it too. :)

You can also see my favorite photos on Flickr at http://www.flickr.com/photos/timpatterson/favorites/

Facebook
A few days into 2007 I signed up a Digg account after hearing a lot about it online and in podcasts. I have enjoyed the DiggNation podcast with Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht for a long time, and stop by to “digg” articles that interest me every once in a while. I like the idea of democratically pushing news stories like this rather than being force-fed what a newspaper or T.V. news crew thinks is important.

Twitter
In September of 2007 I signed up a Twitter account after hearing everyone talking about it on blogs and podcasts. I like the idea and how they facilitate the ability to send a random post or thought via a cell phone SMS or on the website. And I like being able to follow myself and others' postings on the same page too.

Facebook
After reading all of the hype and coverage about FaceBook that has polluted the blogosphere and news I finally broke down and signed up an account toward the end of 2007. I haven't really used it much yet, and don't really know anyone else who's on it yet. I'm also not sure how the hell the site/company can be valued at $15 billion dollars. And the idea that people are leaving Google for FaceBook is just plain weird. I mean, it's a fucking website and glorified forum, nothing really interesting and no ground-breaking technology here.. WTF?

Pownce
On January 22, 2008 I Leah Culver (the hottest developer I know of) and crew finally opened up Pownce for non-invitation registrations, so I immediately created an account. I had been waiting on this for a while after hearing about it for many months. It's like Twitter, but without the 140 character limit and we can do more with it. I like it so far, yay. It's still the same old sharing of worthless drivel with the unwashed masses and friends, but with a new twist or two. Yet another social network that's better than that non-working piece of shit MySpace. :)

FriendFeed
In March of 2008 I joined FriendFeed. It's a kind of cool site that aggregates your posts from many other social networking sites. Someone can visit your FriendFeed profile and see what you "dugg" on Digg, posted to Twitter and Pownce, photos you posted (or favorited) on Flickr, and items you decided to share from other blogs in Google Reader.
