About Me : Homes : Austin

I moved to Austin in late March of 2000 and have lived in a few different places here, so to keep track of stuff I decided to slap up this page. I also started playing with Google Map hacking and put together a page with maps of all the places I've lived, check it out:

Google maps of places I've lived in Austin

I've lived a bunch of different places in Austin, but I've always wanted to get a small condo in a high-rise building in or near downtown. I recently put up a page about my "dream pad" I hope to get someday if and when I get my shit back together. :)

It's probably just a pipe dream, but I posted what I'd like to do if I ever get the chance.. Click here to check it out.

The day I moved in to this place it started raining. Then toward the end of moving my stuff in I noticed the ceiling was leaking. As soon as we were finished I walked over to the office to let them know, and they filled out a work order and told me a maintenance preson would stop by that afternoon to look into it. Nobody every showed up. A little over a week later it rained again, so again I stopped in to the office. They had no record of the work order (WTF?), so she typed another one in, and this time I asked for a copy of it since I had the feeling I should start keeping records. A few days later the office called to say they would need to hire a contractor to fix it. Then a month went by before a maintenance guy stopped by with a roofing guy from Waco. More than a month, and a few more rains passed, when I finally stopped in to pay rent and told them my ceiling was still leaking, even as I stood in the office it was leaking. They called maintenance for an update, and then advised me the contractor would get to work once the weather cleared up. I guess they forgot that I LIVE HERE and see the weather every day. They think I haven't noticed all the nice days we've had in the past month? This place sucks, and I will be moving as soon as my lease is up in October. :(

So my lease at the roach motel was recently up, and I was able to get a really nice 1-bedroom pad back on south Lamar. It was recently rennovated and has all new black appliances, Berber carpeting, wood floors, washer/dryer, lots of closet space, and even has some cool stuff like crown moldings and custom new light fixtures.

For the first several months they would randomly turn the water off to the whole complex. It turned out that they only had one main shutoff valve for the entire complex, so anytime they had to shut off the water to repair something we all got turned off (usually with no notice). They finally fixed this by installing more shutoff valves around the complex 8 months after I moved in. The only other problem I had/have with this place is that they require a 60 day notice to move out, which is complete and utter bullshit.

After spending the summer in Scottsdale, Arizona I moved back to Austin and moved into Fountainhead Apartments here. Apartment locator services were unable to help me this time, so I looked up as many apartment complexes online in 78704 as I could and called around to line up a place to live upon my arrival.

It wasn't my first choice, but it was available. The place is ok, and will do for a while, but I will definitely find a new pad once this lease is up. I miss my old neighborhood near South Austin Gym, Alamo Draft House movie theater and the Saxon Pub.

Spent the summer from May 1, 2007 through September 2, 2007 in Scottsdale, Arizona.

I moved into StoneRidge Apartments May 1st of 2004 after plans to move in with my cute Marilyn fell through.. I wanted to still live south, but closer to downtown.

I used to drive by the complex here on my way downtown all the time, and decided to get a tiny studio here. It's a cool location, and I've been pretty happy here, so I've renewed my lease a few times since moving in here.

On August 1st of 2006 I moved into an apartment in the front of the complex over the office. It's a 1-bedroom unit and has side windows in the living room and bedroom with a great view of the downtown Austin skyline! This pad is great, and I finally got around to making a QTVR panorama of the place.

I moved out of this place at the end of April 2007 to spend the summer in Scottsdale, Arizona with friends. When I returned in the beginning of September of 2007 it was scheduled to be torn down. The Austin city council had voted to rezone the property on November 16, 2006 so a developer could replace it with twice the units, at twice the rent, with some retail shops at street level. I'll always miss my apartment over the office here, it had a great view of the downtown Austin skyline. I loved sitting out front sipping coffee or a beer and watching the traffic go by. :(

After spending 7 months back in Phoenix to work with my friend Erika's company doing web programming and development I was initially planning to move to Casa Grande, Arizona so I could be closer to Skydive Arizona..

At the last minute I changed my mind and decided to take my skydiving buddy Donna up on her offer to rent a room in her house and move back to Austin. I missed my old home away from home, Skydive San Marcos, and my cute ex-girlfriend and old skydiving buddies.

Spent from October 31, 2002 through June 13, 2003 in Phoenix, Arizona.

When the Hoover's Online offices moved a couple miles away to the old Butterkrust building on Airport Blvd. I had to drive to work, so I decided to find a new pad with washer/dryer hookups.

I found a cool pad by the Arboretum with laundry hookups here. And my place was in front with the tree cover right off Jollyville Road. I'd hang out on the patio there with a cold pint of Guinness and watch the numerous women running on the jogging path out front after work, woo.

I had accepted a position at Hoover's Online in Austin while still living in Phoenix.. So I searched the apartment sites online, and ended up having an apartment locator lady in Austin set me up at this place sight unseen. It was across the street from my new office, so I walked to work the first 9 months in Austin :)

I didn't even see the apartment until after I had signed the lease and began unloading my Uhaul and moving in. It was a cool "loft" pad, but it didn't have laundry machine hookups..

Lived in Phoenix until moving to Austin in late March of 2000.
